Long time no post here. Sorry about that.

Well, I did this cartoon awhile ago with Jon Adams and Titmouse Studios for MTV LiquidTv. It's episode one of three. Two will be out next week.

And if it gets enough hits, MTV might order more. So if you like it, tell your friends. If you don't, tell your enemies to watch it.

It's kinda fucked up.

I get being a new artist is hard. We've all been there. And its real tempting to take from a more established artists than yourself in order to elevate your own art. Really, I get it. But when you get caught, confess. It'll go easier on you. Acting righteous and claiming that you were really ripping off "other" work that is not your own, and even claiming that you've never seen the original art is not the best way to handle the situation. All this can be seen here...Vincenzo-Raimondi.deviantart.c…

This poor Italian artist just woke up to a shit storm of epic proportions. Do I feel bad for him? Nah, he'll get over it. Hopefully, he'll learn a powerful lesson. And that is; if you're gonna be inspired, give credit where credit is due. And if you don't, and then get caught, be contrite. It'll lesson the pain.

And you might ask yourself, "hey Dave, why do you give a shit about this?" Well, in some ways I don't. It doesn't hurt me or my career in the slightest. I'm just putting it out there. To let you be the judge.

Here is just some of the offenses.

I'm averaging about one good xmas present a year. This is what I made this year for a friend who just had her father pass away. It's almost entirely homemade.

Hey people! Just letting all of you know about 2 new art blogs that I'll be associated with from now on. The first is What Not Blog spot. whatnotisms.blogspot.com/ It's a weekly art blog featuring some of the top talent currently in the comic book industry.

The second is Johnson Cover Hi-Lo. johnsoncoverhi-lo.blogspot.com… It'll be a weekly critical examination of the current weeks comic book covers. I'm going to get down and dirty as to what I think is wrong and right about cover design.

Every year I make something by hand. And just about every year I lose to something topical/humorous. Hell, one year my first samurai costume lost to a guy who dressed up as Beetlejuice. 20 years after the fucking movie came out. Anyway, this year I wore my Batman Samurai outfit that I made last year, and the party I went to is having a photo contest after the fact. Wanna correct this injustice? Follow this link and click "thumbs up". It's a simple as that.

And I've started to give you t-shirts. So here's a bunch for sale.
www.zazzle.com/devilpig

But sadly, no orders to date. But hope springs eternal. Not that I get all that much money from each shirt. It's like $2.00 a shirt or something. What a racket. But at least I'm not stuck with inventory that I can't get rid of.

Maybe you should follow me on twitter. Why? Because sometime I post art on there that I might not post here. Like the Venture Bros. production art I did for the Shallow Gravy episode I worked on that just aired. Like this.

It's Sunday July 17th and I've got my last B.P.R.D. cover to do. And it needs to go out the door tomorrow. So here's what I need translated as soon as possible.... "Let us burn the evil out" or something that gets that idea across if this doesn't translate well. My computer isn't doing the job and I want it done right. If you're reading this on the 18th then you're too late so don't waste your time. The cover will already be out the door.

So how about it, DA? Any proper russian speakers out there?

Any?

Thanks in advance.

I gotta say that lately the Daily DA has been pretty goddamned weak. It's rare that I find something that inspires me at all. At least in the illustration side of things. Some of it looks like it belongs on the side of a 70's van or in a high school art class. Not sure who's picking this crap, but I'm guessing they like their sauce on the weak side.

And yes, I know I'll get the comments like "Well do something about it" or something like it. To be honest, I don't have the time. I'm a working man. I'm not even asking you the reader of this journal to do something about it. I just felt like bitching about it. It's my party and I'll bitch if I want to.

So it's your time to bitch if YOU want to.

So If you're in town this week, come on by the convention and yell "You BASTARD!" to me. It'll be funny when I tell the convention guys to throw your ass out. Kidding.......Maybe.

Here's the convention info.

So due to the overwhelming requests to give harsh critiques, I've decided to open up The Reverend Dave's College of Ass-Kickery and Salacious Critiques. What is that you say? Let me explain.

The Rev. Dave's College Ass-Kickery and Salacious Critiques or R.D.C.A.S.C will be an online place were you can get an artistic ass kicking from a group of qualified professionals. For a nominal price your ass will be handed to you on a silver platter.

Price list includes:
For $10 one of our professionals will give you an overall assessment of your portfolio. This includes an intense artistic ass-banging of epic proportion. And suggestions on what you should work on and books and other artists you should look at and learn from.

For $20 All the above, plus an in depth critique of one piece of art that you choose. This includes drawing over you piece of defective art, showing you firsthand what you did wrong and how you can change it for the better.

For $50 All of the above, plus 5 more harsh in depth critiques.

For $100 Instead of an ass-kicking you'll receive an ASS-KISSING! That's right, we're talking about a stroke job that would make the gods jealous. Be the envy of all your friends when you show them Sean Murphy or Dan Panosian or Joe Jusko gushing all over your latest artistic masterpiece. Here's an example of what you'll receive..... "OMG! This artistic endeavor is one of the greatest pieces of art I've ever seen. You're like better than Frazetta, Rockwell, Kirby, Moebius and Liefield all rolled up into one. Someday I can only hope to be as good as you."
See? Something like that.

And of course, there's a money-back guarantee if there's nothing wrong with your art.

So save up your money. Details about where to send the money will be coming soon on this journal.

And I promise you'll get it. Sorry in advance if you're offended, hurt or pissed off with the result. If you want an ass kissing there are plenty of other people on this site that will line up to do so. Maybe you should ask your Mom. Unless your Mom is a bitch and never tells you what an awesome artist you are, no matter how hard to try to please her....MOM WHY DON'T YOU LOVE MEEEEE....? *ahem* back to what I was saying. I'm not your Mom. I won't blow sunshine up your ass. You deserve better. I'll try to be nice but like I said, that's not my job. If your stuff is great, I'll tell you. If it needs work, I'll tell you what I think you can do to be better. If you're a grown ass man, and your stuff looks like a 12 year old drew it, well.....

The reason I'm writing this is because someone who uses computer puppet programs like poser to do 95% of their "art" asked me if I thought DC or Marvel would ever hire a guy like him. I told him "I hope not". I went on from there and you can read it in my front page comments. Was I a bit harsh? Sure. But that whole letting the computer do everything for you isn't what I can art. It actually pisses me off. Computers are tools, not artists. It's why Pixar blows the doors off the guys who just cranked out "Mars needs Moms". And I guess I'm not alone in my opinion, because that piece of crap movie is looking like it'll be one of the biggest flops in recent times. Why? Because it lacks soul. If I want to see realistically rendered things I'll look at a photograph. If I want to see great comic book art, I prefer to see a human using his/her hand. Even if it's only on a Wacom.

Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

A human wrote this note.

And here's my response to Rich (Glenn Beck) Johnson:

"Here are a couple of things. One. I didn't swipe shit. The cover in question was done months ago. Actually it was done for the DC ICON cover event. But the book was gonna ship late, so they asked me to add a background color as to not compete with that event. So I did. Second. I'm not privy to seeing ads placed in the books I do covers for. Hell, 95% of the time the script, and especially the art hasn't even been written or drawn yet. Three. It really is kind of a classic pose. And it made sense for this cover. Four. Rich Johnson, if he really wanted to, could have easily tracked me down and just asked me. Hell, if I had swiped it, I probably would have fessed up to it. But that would take effort and then he'd have nothing to write about. He's kinda like the Glenn Beck of comics Journalism. But I guess it works for him."

Also, we are throwing a Drink and Draw event at Comic-Con this year at a bar called Hennessey's in the Gas Light District. And we'll have books there to sell. So bring a pad of paper and pens and a mighty thirst and come on down. The party starts at 8.

Thanks in advance.

Well, for those who want to read the continuing adventures of Flatulene (the gaseous girl in the world) you can now buy the book that she'll be appearing in on a quarterly basis. The book/magazine is called "Titmouse" and it's being published by the animation studio of the same name. If you've seen the Adult Swim show Metalocalypse, then you know what this studio is all about. It's a crazy mix of art and stories with an interview with one of my favorite artists, Dave Cooper.

So here's a link to buy the book.

And if you're in the L.A. area on the 16th of July come on down to the book release party at Ghetto Gloss Gallery. Here's the link.
